Castlegar Active Community Plan

Active Communities Website

In the spring of 2005 Act Now BC was initiated by the British Columbia provincial government in an effort to make BC the healthiest host of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Active Communities lead agency, coordinating this initiative, is the BC Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA). The main objective or goal to be achieved by registered Active Communities is to improve the physical activity levels of residents by 20% by the year 2010.

The target for BC as a whole is to increase the number of British Columbians who are currently moderately active (according to the Canada Health Survey) from 58% to 69.9% by the year 2010.

Castlegar has accepted this challenge and a committee was established to assist the community in becoming more active. Visit About Us to learn more about our group. The more people we get involved, the better chance we'll have to reach our goal!
